About Yan Yan
Yan Yan is a 20 years old girl. She is quite active in sports and has won several medals for running during High School.
For the last few years, she has been having frequent dizziness and her Apple watch detects alarming low heart rates during her sleep.
The dizziness usually goes away after she takes some iron supplements so it wasn’t an issue to her back then.
The ongoing low heart rate during sleep was worrying and has been depriving her from good sleep so she went around looking for solution.
In April 2022, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was told that there is no solution to that and was given some medicines for her stiff joints.
The Problem
When she first visited us, we realise her condition was worsening. Although her Rheumatoid Factor dropped from 294 to 207 (normal range <20), her Kidney Function dropped significantly and her White Blood Cells was 80% higher than normal.
We also observed that her Creatinine went up to 93 from 66 (upper limit 80) and her MCHC was below normal range. Her HbA1c was 5.8% suggesting she is Pre-Diabetic.
She also has some Gastric and Stomach problems but these are excluded in this Case Study. These issues went away in less than one week.
Health Conditions She Needed Our Help
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Impaired Kidney Function
High Creatinine
Low MCHC
High White Blood Count
Low Heart Rate While Sleeping
Poor Sleep Quality
Frequent Dizziness
Pre-Diabetic
Gastric & Stomach Problems
Note 1. Creatinine is a waste product of our body. Healthy Kidneys filter them and they exit our body through urine.
2. MCHC is the average concentration of hemoglobin in your red blood cells. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule that allows red blood cells to carry oxygen to tissues within your body.
How We Helped Her?
We explained her our approach and expectations and solution we have for her. Also, we shared her the story about David ( Case Study Rheumatoid Arthritis 001) and highlighted the importance of maintaining a good diet should she want to recover as soon as possible.
We gave her a Dietary guideline that is similar to David’s. We made some adjustments after we factored in the condition of her Kidney.
We told her that David never had any issues with his Kidney despite his unusual record breaking high levels of Rheumatoid Factor. Hence, we tweaked the diet to minimise risks of complications.
Lastly, we advised her to NOT do any exercise at home for the beginning as her body hasn’t rested well for a long time. That said, we told her to do some walking and get some morning sun.
Results
-After her 3rd session, she told us that she never had such a good sleep before although her Heart Rate was still low. Her body was no longer stiff too.
-After her 5th session, her dizziness reduced by 70-80% and sleep quality improved further.
-After her 10th session, she did a new Blood Test. Her Kidney Function, Creatinine, MCHC, White Blood Count and Fasting Glucose returned to normal healthy levels.
To be continued… (August 2022)
